What Do You Want Me To Do?
Mark 10:46-52
Mark 10:51 (KJV) 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
Many times while shopping I have been asked, “Can I help you? Or, “Can I help you find something?” Or, “What can I do for you?” I was asked these questions by an employee that worked at the store where I was shopping. All of you have been asked the same questions or questions similar to these.
The question in our text was asked by the Lord Jesus Christ. The man who was this question was man we know as “Blind Bartimaeus.” Bartimaeus replied, “Lord, that I might receive my sight.” Bartimaeus was granted his request. The bible says he received his sight and then followed the Lord Jesus.
I believe the Lord Jesus Christ is asking the same question to all of us. “What do you want me to do? What do you want the Lord Jesus to do in your life? This is a question that requires a response from each of us. We live in a world where people are blind to the truth of God’s word. They are blind to the fact that God wants to give them sight so that they can see the light of His Truth and be saved.
Bartimaeus responded because of a need in His life. It was a need that only The Lord Jesus could meet. Only Jesus can meet the deepest needs in our lives; the need for salvation; the need for grace, joy, peace and life everlasting. When we look to someone other than the Lord Jesus to fulfill these needs we are met with disappointment and discouragement. We must recognize our need for Jesus and look to Him to meet and fulfill the deepest needs in our lives.
It was a response of total abandonment to the Lordship of Christ. We see this in the fact that Bartimaeus through off his garment. This garment identified him as a beggar. He was willing to leave a life of begging behind in order to be made whole. He knew that Jesus could give him more than he could ever receive through a life of begging. We must be willing to leave our olf life for the new life that is ours in Christ.
He responded to what he heard. He heard that Jesus was passing by. Who knew that this was an opportunity of a life time and possibly the last. So he cried out in faith to Jesus. He ignored the criticism and taunts of those around him that were telling him to be quite. There are times when others around us may criticize us for calling out to God. They may make fun of us and tell us to be quite, but let us continue to cry out in faith. Why? Because we are the ones that recognize our need for Jesus and that in Him we are blessed with favor.
I want to encourage all of you to look to Jesus to fulfill the needs in your life. Follow Him daily because He will lead you to the place where God’s blessings abound.
