Blessing; the invoking of God's favor upon a person.
God’s covenant with Abram in Genesis 12v2
“And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
So that all the people on earth may be blessed through you.
In order that you may be a blessing;
I will bless those who bless you,
And whoever curses you I will curse”
God’s promise for Abram was that he would be blessed richly and abundant, with all the inheritance God has for him. God’s intention for Abram was to bless Abram. But the blessing was not for Abram alone. God went on to say,
“So that all the people on earth may be blessed through you.”
You see, the blessing does not stop at Abram. God’s intention was for Abram to be a blessing to everyone. When we think of the word “blessing”, we often associate this word with giving, money, or possessions. It is not wrong. Those word do have an association with the word, “blessing” but I think they are just forms of blessing.
Although it is good, and we can bless people through our giving of money and possessions, but there are many ways, which we can be a blessing to the people around us. We can be a blessing to people, by simply shaking their hands, giving them a pat on the shoulder, or giving a friendly hug. We have a growing community in Youth Church that consist of different types of people. Take that opportunity to make new friends and to meet new people.
Remember, a smile really goes a long way. We may think that these little things don’t matter, but I believe it is the little things that we do for people that matters the most. We are all called to be a blessing to the people around us. That includes you.
