Our Posture Maters

When there is a wedding and the bridal march begins, what do people do without thinking twice? They stand in honor of the bride, clapping and cheering on bride upon her entrance. When a man asks a woman to marry him, he gets on his knee to propose to her. Why? Because he wants to show her that this is an important event and that she is being honored as someone very special. When our favourite sports team scores a goal or a point, we get on our feet, with our fist to the air, pumped with excitement. When someone points a gun at you, our knee jerk reaction is to raise both our hands up high, as a sign of surrender.

Our posture matters. We are holistic creatures, created with intellect, emotions, and body parts working alongside each other. Our non- verbal communication plays an important role that sometime, it speaks for us what our words can't.

We lift up our hands to God as an act of surrender, as an act of reaching out before God. We bow and kneel down before The Lord as an act of submission, honour and reverence. We sing, dance and jump before God because we are free, for we were once slaves to sin.

As we experience God's supernatural love in our hearts, our body respond the condition of our heart. The fruit of our outward expression reveals the root of our heart.

Worship is an expression. Yes, there are times where we should be silent. But if we constantly find ourselves standing still, with our arms folded, mouthing the words, starring at the worship team looking bored, the posture indicates that we are not experiencing an inward change in our hearts.

But rather than forcing ourselves to lift our hands for the sake of it, we should ask God to draw us closer to Him. Only God can change our hearts. Only He can show us the way. And when we do finally experience His amazing love, our mouth cannot help but sing, our feet cannot help but dance, and our knees cannot help, but bow.. And when we do finally experience His amazing love, our hands cannot stop
