Sunday Sermon Recap

Speaker: Joshua Yee
The Ten Commandments Sermon Series
Seventh Commandment: You Shall Not Commit Adultery

Exodus 20:14
You shall not commit adultery.

Matthew 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

What is adultery?
An unlawful sexual act of any kind be it married or unmarried.

What is lust?
A strong desire of any kind, that is evil.

Colossians 3:3-5
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is you life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

Sexual Immorality
-Fornication
-Pornography
-Adultery

These are also counted as idolatry in which, we must put to death!
The root of sexual immorality is LUST.

How Does This Relate to Me?

What we watch
What kind of movies do we watch?
Do our eyes have a covenant with God?

What we listen
What kind of songs are we listening to?
Do our ears have a covenant with God?

What we do
What kind of life are we living?
Are we dependant on earthly things to fill our hearts?
Do our hands have a covenant with God?

Are We Protecting What God Has Given Us?

Dangers of Lust

It Destroys Us
- We turn to earthly things to relieve ourselves.
- It affects our speech and thoughts.
- We become addicted.

We Destroy Others
- We look at others differently.
- We fantasize about the opposite sex.
- It destroys our perception of marriage.

We Destroy Our Walk With God
- We grieve the Holy Spirit
- We cripple our growth
- It pulls us away from God.

Conclusion
- God wants us to live holy lives.
- He wants us to be free.

Ephesians 5:3
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
