Purpose of the commandments
- to have relationship with God
- to be free
- to love God
- to avoid chaos
Is wanting something wrong?
Depends on your motives.
Motives
Greed, not need
Competition, not inspiration
Definition of Covet
- to desire (what belongs to another) earnestly
- wants what the other guy has very much
- to desire wrongfully
What's wrong with coveting
- A covetous person is someone who has little or no regard for his neighbour's well being, interests or property.
- Self-centered, egocentric, opposite of "love your neighbour as yourself"
- It is an invisible sin, a matter of the heart
- Root of all other sin
- Begins close to home.
Consequences of coveting
- Creates an ungrateful heart
- Destroys life
- Destroys relationships
- Damages yourself
- Corrupts the heart
Check your motives.
How can we change?
- Be thankful
- Be content
"Discontentment makes rich men poor, contentment makes poor men rich"
- STOP IT
- List down what you have and start thanking God.
