Galatians
5:1
Stand
fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be
entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
In this passage, Paul was addressing the
Galatians as there were two kinds of teaching at that time. While Paul taught
on the freedom that Christ has given us through His death on the cross, another
group taught that to be saved, one had to be circumcised and be bound by the
law.
Paul urged them to stand in the freedom that
Christ has already claimed and not to go back on the new freedom they have
found and be bound by the law.
While we are not persuaded away as strongly to
the teachings at that time, in today’s world, we still see a lot of Christians
living under bondage despite knowing that Christ has already claimed the
victory for us.
We see many young people especially today, so
drawn into the cyber world. We become so dependent on our phones, tablets,
computers and various gadgets that we can’t live without them.
We say we need other things to relief us of a
world of stress and troubles. But we often forget that Christ is our solution.
His death on the cross has brought victory and freedom. We are no longer bound
but already set free. And if we are already set free then why do we still live
as though Christ’s death is in vain? Why do we bind ourselves to things that
only give short term relief but long term suffering?
Christ has paid the price with His life so that
we are set free and can live free. Choose to look to Christ and not things that
bring temporary satisfaction. Look to Him for He brings life abundantly.
