Sunday Sermon Recap

Family Sunday
The Gifts of the Spirit and the Fruit of the Spirit

These are 2 different things

Matt 7:21-23.21

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Which is of the two is more important?
"Which wing of an airplane is more important?"
Both are important!

However there is a tension between the two.
One error is to neglect one and emphasise the other.
Self consciousness- the gifts of spirit have self consciousness, e.g.: "Did we not prophesy"
                              - the fruit of the spirit don't have self conciousness

Gifts of the Spirit

Exodus 13-Moses had collected the second pair of tablets. His face was shining, but he didn't know, he was unself-conscious.

When you gaze in the beauty of Jesus, you will change, but you will not be wary of it.
Moses didn't look in the mirror and say "I look great."
Paul was not proud, but instead called himself the least of the apostles, the least of the saints and the chief of sinners.

The more you are conscious of Jesus of your life, you become more conscious of your potential for evil.

Be more concious of God.

1 Corinthians 12
•What is the best gift for you?
The gift required to equip me to fulfil God's calling in your life.
Don't look for gifts but look for God's purpose for you

•When you ask God for a gift, we are influenced by a shopping mall system.
Looking at what seems "nice" and wanting it.

•There is a self conscious cultivation of the gift of God.

1 Tim 4:14
Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Fan your gifts into flame.
Don't opposite natural and super natural be cause they work hand in hand.

Gifts of the spirit should not be your source of identity.

Exodus is about the I AM not the I DO. I AM could be a substitute for I DO and vice versa.

Identity is not the name. It is the similarity that comes from the parent. There is a relationship between man and Father God.

Relationship defines identity.
