“He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it.” (1 The. 5:24 ESV)
God will fulfill His purposes, promises and destiny for the church and nation because He is faithful. That is His nature but there is a qualifier. God will choose and use congregations and individuals who have faith and fully believe in Him and His plans and would faithfully follow His agenda.
This principle of God selecting whom He would use to bring His will and purposes to pass is demonstrated in the incident of the 12 who were sent to spy the Promised Land (Num 13). All the 12 knew about God’s plans, promises, purposes and destiny for Israel and their promised land. But how many actually believed? How many trusted God to bring His promises to pass? Numbers 14:6-9 shows us that ultimately, only two out of the 12 spies believed in God’s plans and promises. Even as Caleb and Joshua stood on these promises and warned the people not to rebel against the Lord or fear the people of the land, the response of all the congregation was to stone them (Num 14: 6-10a)!
For that, God judged those with unbelieving hearts and rebellious spirits. He made them wander in the wilderness for 40 years, to suffer for their faithlessness, never to see the fulfillment of His promises (Num 14:33). Only Caleb and Joshua were able to enter the Promised land. This demonstrates to us that although God is faithful to His promises, He will only use faithful individuals to bring them to pass.
Caleb and Joshua believed, held on to God’s plans and stayed the course in tandem with God. But even so, they had to go through fiery trials, unspeakable hindrances, difficulties and hardships. They suffered persecutions and injustices as they wandered in the wilderness together with the faithless and rebellious lot. Yet God was faithful and He honoured Caleb and Joshua – They were the only two spies who remained alive and entered the promised land together with the new generation (Num 14:38)
Similarly, today, God has great prophecies for our church and nation. The prayer revival is already here. It is not strange, unknown nor unseen. God’s sovereign plan and purpose is for our church to spearhead His move in our nation. Revival fire is going to spread through our nation. God is bringing down His glory upon His church and the peoples of this land. What is our response? Are we going to join the ‘Calebs’ and ‘Joshuas’ and flow with what God is doing or are we going to say, “Stone them?” May God find each one of us true and faithful so that our whole church and His body here in Malaysia will move in tandem with His Spirit as He leads us.
