Mighty to Save

“Mighty to Save”-Hillsong

“The Lord your God is with you; the mighty One will save you. He will rejoice over you. You will rest in His love; He will sing and be joyful about you.”-
Zephaniah 3:17 (NCV)

I am surprised that I have not written a reflection on this song before now. This is one of my favorite worship songs of all time. Why? The words are so rich and comforting. The melody is so beautiful and easy to remember that you can go around singing, “shine your light and let the whole world see,” or, “Savior, He can move the mountains, my God is mighty to save” all day long (or I do at least).
Think about just the opening line of this song, “everyone needs compassion, a love that’s never failing, let mercy fall on me.” That just sets everything up for us in this song. This song goes on to remind us that, though we are not worthy, we have a mighty God Who is able to save us from our sinful lives and lift us up from the grave.
This is reason enough to lift up our voices and sing out to God. He sings and is joyful about us, as it states here in Zephaniah, so we should happily lift up a shout of praise, with joy and gladness, about our Lord and Savior and all He does for us.
God takes away our fears and failures and gives us hope. All He asks in return is to be His shining light in this world, letting “the whole world see.” This is one of my favorite songs to end a worship service with, hoping that these words will stick in people’s minds as they leave the four walls: “shine your light and let the whole world see for the Glory of the Risen King.” For GOD’S Glory, not our own…just remember that, and go shine your lights!
