The Right Attitude

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men… It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Col 3: 23-24)
Have you ever complained about all the work you have to do? Have you ever grumbled about life’s unfairness in the areas of relationships, health or career? I am sure we all have complained at one point or another in our lives.
When my attitude ‘sucks’, people have often told me that the world does not revolve around me alone and I need to rid myself of negative attitudes that erode my life. As I ponder over those words, I must admit its truth. Doing house chores is one of the many things I dislike. I used to grumble and complain whenever I was asked to help out around the house. However, as I mature, I realise that doing house chores is not that bad. I must also admit that at times I have actually enjoyed doing those chores. So, I came to this conclusion: All in all, it is our attitude that counts and makes the difference. Looking at the bright side and doing a task cheerfully can make a job so much easier.
As I look forward to finishing my studies and being part of the country’s workforce, I am challenged by the verses in Colossians 3. I constantly remind myself to always work wholeheartedly, as unto God and not man. This means that I do not work for others to see, no matter where or what situation I am in.

Giving our best in whatever we do is living out the right attitude in life and that brings pleasure to God as well as blesses the people around us. Right attitudes also make us salt and light (Mt 5:13-16) in our world. So, in whatever we are doing, whether within our scope of responsibilities or not, we can determine to make a difference in our world by having right attitudes in life.
